It’s funny how the Universe works and how we land in places we never thought to be. Accompanying my friend Russell on a project, eventually turned out to be an exciting collaboration with the community leaders of Sabangan. Graciously hosted by Sir Ernesto, the most influential man in town, and guided by Roger, we headed out to Apa campsite of Mt. Kalawitan
to see how we could create a structure out of the bottle waste that has accumulated in the past year.
This project would be the beginning of many great things with this community. Aside from the Apa viewing shed, the grander plan would be to revolutionize the waste management system of Sabangan. As a member of Trail Adventours, I am so thankful and excited to be part of the execution of this sustainable plan. So to be well-updated of our Footprints that make a Difference Program, do check this blog and the progress of our many projects.
As of now, we are in the process of collecting more glass bottles throughout the community. Next week, we hopefully will get the kids of Sabangan involved in creating a new system of segregating their trash and in setting up the recycling shed in the middle of the town, so as to get everyone excited about this idea. -B.
