Batad and Banue are how to UNESCO Heritage inscribed rice terraces. Both have their own appeal with the Banaue rice terraces being vast and covering a large area while the Batad Terraces are considered the highest of the famed rice terraces. BIth these beautiful construnctions of man can be easily visited by driving to them, but then, where would be the thrill and adventure in that?

Going to Batad via Bangaan is a much more exciting way to get there. The hike is fairly easy but reveal an incrdible view the nearby mountains and numerous rice terraces including the Bangaan rice terraces which is also a UNESCO inscribed site. Along the way you get to meet locals with whom you can share a drink and some stories.

Once in Batad you explore it's poblacion and watch the locals in their everyday activities. Pounding rice, planting or harvesting crops, carving and, if one is lucky, watch some of the last weavers weave a traditional attire. In Batad you will also visit the beautiful Tapiyah Falls with it's water droping nearly 60 meters. You may wish to take a dip in it's cold water or watch a rainbow appear amidst the mist created because of the power of the waterfalls.


Day 1
09:00 PM Day 0: Meet up and Registration at Ohayami Bus Terminal Station.
10:00 PM Day 0: Estimated Time of Departure (ETD) for Banaue.
07:00 AM Day 1: Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) Banaue. Breakfast.
08:00 AM Depart for Banaue Rice Terraces view deck. Head to Bangaan Rice Terraces.
09:30 AM ETA Banggan Rice Terraces. Trek down to the village. Free and easy. Trek back to Highway.
11:30 AM Lunch at Bangaan.
12:30 PM Start trek to Batad from Bangaan.
05:30 PM ETA Batad. Settle down. Dinner.
09:00 PM Lights out.
Day 2
06:00 AM Day 2: Wake-up call. Breakfast.
07:00 AM Start trek to Tapiyah falls passing by the Batad rice terraces.
08:30 AM Arrive at Tapiyah Waterfalls. Swim and relax.
10:00 AM Start trek back to Homestay.
12:00 PM ETA Homestay. Lunch. Pack and prepare for the trek to Saddle point.
01:00 PM Start trek to Saddle point.
02:00 PM ETA Saddle point. Head back to Banaue.
03:30 PM ETA Banaue. Visit Museum (If time permits).
05:00 PM Dinner.
07:00 PM Depart back to Manila
04:00 AM Day 3: ETA Manila

1. How do we get to Bangaan and Batad?
A 8-10 hour bus ride from Manila to Bananue this will be followed by a 1 ½ jeepney ride to the jump-off point of Bangaan. From here we will be trekking 3-4 hours until we reach Batad. 

2. What transportation will be used?
We will be using an airconditioned bus to get to Banaue then a local jeepney to get to Batad.

3. Where is the bus station?
The Ohayami Lines Bus station is located at Fajardo st. cor.Lacson st., Manila. It is near Espana St. and the Nagtahan Bridge.

4. Is the climb hard?
Generally the climb/trail is easy. The only challenging part is the trail from the waterfalls back to the accommodations as this will require a challenging inlcined trek through steps.

5. Is there cellphone signal?
The town of Banaue has good signal buti signal in Batad is very sporadic and unreliable. 

6. Where do we stay?
We will be staying in a local lodge. Very simple accommodation where a room is shared with 2-6 people. Restrooms are communal and hot water can be requested for a minimal fee.

7. What food will be served?
All food will be locally prepared. Pork, chicken and vegetables are the main ingredients it most meals. Food can be cooked adobo style or nilaga. A local delicacy “Pinikpikan” can also be requested. Vegetables are very good and are a staple in the area.

8. How cold does it get?
Usually temperatures at night and early morning range from 15-20deg. If it rains it gets colder.

9. Are we allowed to swim in the falls?
Yes, but please follow your guide’s instructions for safety. The water is also very cold.
