Overview

Batad and Banaue are both UNESCO Heritage inscribed sites. Both have their own appeal with the Banaue rice terraces being vast and covering a large area while the Batad Terraces are considered the highest of the famed rice terraces. But these beautiful constructions of man can be easily visited by driving to them, but then, where would be the thrill and adventure in that?

Going to Batad via Bangaan is a much more exciting way to get there. The hike is fairly easy but reveals an incredible view of the nearby mountains and numerous rice terraces including the Bangaan rice terraces which is also a UNESCO inscribed site. Along the way you get to meet locals with whom you can share a drink and some stories.

Once in Batad you explore its Poblacion and watch the locals in their everyday activities. Pounding rice, planting or harvesting crops, carving and, if one is lucky, watch some of the last weavers weave a traditional attire. In Batad you will also visit the beautiful Tapiyah Falls with its water dropping nearly 60 meters. You may wish to take a dip in its cold water or watch a rainbow appear amidst the mist created because of the power of the waterfalls.

09:00 PM Depart for Banaue.
Day 1
06:00 AM Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) Banaue. Breakfast.
08:00 AM Visit Banaue Museum and Banaue Rice Terraces view deck. Purchase packed lunch.
09:00 AM Depart for Bangaan.
11:00 AM Arrive at Bangaan. Start trek. Lunch along the trails.
03:30 PM Arrive in Batad. Settle down.
06:00 PM Dinner.
09:00 PM Lights out.
Day 2
06:00 AM Wake-up call. Breakfast.
07:00 AM Start trek to Tapiyah falls passing by the Batad rice terraces.
09:00 AM Arrive at Tapiyah Waterfalls. Swim and relax.
10:00 AM Start trek back to Homestay.
11:30 AM ETA Homestay. Lunch. Pack up.
02:00 PM Start hike.
02:30 PM Board jeep and head back to Banaue.
04:00 PM ETA Banaue. Explore town and purchase souvenirs.
05:00 PM Dinner.
06:00 PM Depart back to Manila (ETA in Manila is 4 AM the following day)
